Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Cumberland County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be kept long enough to review it and respond. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers automatically receive basic technical and usage information, including:
- Your device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- A referring website, when available
- The date and time of each page request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help summarize traffic, popular pages, and points where visits end. Browser controls can reject or remove cookies, although blocking them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving site performance
- Routing search submissions to the selected outside provider
- Understanding which resources visitors use
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Cumberland County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general instructions for reaching local police, Cumberland County Prison, the courts, the Pennsylvania State Police Central Repository, and the Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law Website. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the selected provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Those companies determine how long they retain data and when they share it. Review the applicable terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Cumberland County offices, Pennsylvania court and agency portals, legal-aid resources, or commercial search providers. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for interest-based advertising. That tracking is controlled by those companies.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to:
- Outside search providers that process a submitted query
- Analytics vendors that measure site use and performance
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, customary security measures are used to protect collected information. No Internet-connected system is completely secure, however, and this site cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, a deletion request may be made and the material will be removed promptly.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence. Pennsylvania's Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law, 73 P.S. §§201-1 through 201-9.3, and other applicable privacy or consumer laws may provide additional protections. Public agency records are separately governed by the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law, while criminal-history dissemination and a record subject's inspection rights fall under the Criminal History Record Information Act. At a minimum, you may:
- Request access to personal information held about you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion of your personal data
- Decline certain forms of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A replacement will be posted here and will carry a revised effective date.
